Kindergarten 2013-2014

Summer is almost over and the school bell will be ringing.  I can't wait to meet all my new students!  We are going to have a super year!
To  make sure things go smoothly please follow a few steps.  The first and most important is to make sure I know how students will be going home each day.  If I do not have a note from a parent or the office I will have to send them the usual way.  Text and email are not always a safe bet, so please be sure and contact the office.  I sometimes cannot get to email or text until after school.   Also, if you are sending money, always put it in an envelope or baggy with what it is for and the child's name. (Lunch, book order, etc.)  Last but not least, don't forget "Meet the Teacher Night," Thursday, August 15th from 3:00 until 7:00.  It is very helpful if you can bring supplies at this time.
Enjoy the rest of summer!  See you soon!

Wow! What a great time we had visiting the Ag Learning Center at The Four States Fairgrounds. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Jennifer Caraway for getting everything together. The kids had a lot of fun and learned new things. It was a great experience, even if the weather did not cooperate.

On Monday, Jeff Tong gave our class a special treat. He read a story that he wrote and illustrated. Hearing him talk about how he began the process really got the students attention. Many could not wait to write their own book!

We had a very fun day at MDP! The Russell kiddos ALL took a ride in a Hummer limo! Wow! What a great treat for everyone! Our school also raised quite a bit of money from our raffle ticket sales. Thanks to all family and friends who helped support our great school! I also want to thank the parents for helping your child sell tickets. Congratulations to our top sellers and the winners of the raffle.
Next week will be just as great as we take a field trip and begin the countdown to graduation. I can't believe the school year is almost over!

At 1:50 we will crown our classroom queens and kings, as well as announce our overall top sales person. We will also draw the winners of the raffle. It should be an exciting day at MDP!

Happy Easter!

We had a vey eventful day in kindergarten room 106! We started our day with our weekly spelling test in which all my students did fantabulous!!! We had been working on the word "said" all week and it was giving us a little trouble. But, as we know practice makes perfect, all my students got it or were really close. I did not have any try to spell it sed! Which is quite an accomplishment. So proud of them! We also dyed Easter eggs and as soon as they were dyed they wanted to peel and eat! So that they did! We also sneaked outside for a little Easter egg hunt! The kids were so excited! Pictures below! Have a great Good Friday and a wonderful Easter! See you Monday!

The Leprechaun continued.....

The Leprechaun came to our room last night and boy did he leave a mess! He even tried to block the door so we couldn't get into our room. We didn't catch him but we did get a piece of his jacket and his hat. He left us some really neat treats for cleaning up his mess! We all had a lot of fun trying to capture him, but he was just to sneaky!

The Leprechaun visits our room!

Well, that pesky little leprechaun finally made an appearance in our room. As we were taking pictures he sneaked in and made a mess! We cleaned up and immediately began to discuss our plan for catching him. I must say there were some interesting ideas! We finally decided to set traps for him, but not before he had a chance to do it again! While we were eating and playing he decided to come back! After lunch we made our traps. Below you will see the mess and our handcrafted, one of a kind leprechaun traps! I will tell you they are unique! I sure hope they catch that little leprechaun!

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great start to the week!  This week is sure to be filled with fun and excitement as that pesky leprechaun visits.  We are sure to catch him by Friday so stay tuned to see photos and get up to date information on our progress.

We will also continue learning new reading strategies, solving math problems, as well as, spelling and writing stories.  Please continue working on spelling words and math facts. Remember your child is responsible for all math facts that equal a sum of 5 or less.

You may have noticed raffle tickets in your child's folder.  This is our BIG fundraiser for the year.  Each child that sells twenty or more tickets will get a ride in a Hummer Limo.  The students LOVE riding in a Limo; especially a Hummer!  Also, the top girl and boy seller from each classroom will be crowned King and Queen of their class.  The boy and girl who sell the most per grade level will become King and Queen of  that grade.  So SELL, SELL, SELL!!!

We had a great first week back from the holiday! Our week was filled with exciting stories about the cool new things we received for Christmas. It was fun to listen to the students share what their favorite item was with their classmates. As our week progressed we slowly adjusted back into our routine. We ended Friday with an exciting "engineering" activity. Yes, I said engineering. We constructed a robotic alligator with our new Legos Robitics Kit. The kids had a lot of fun discussing, listening and figuring out how each piece played an important role in the finished product. I have posted pictures of the end result. Be sure to ask your child about this amazing activity. Have a great weekend!
